I'd say maybe not quite but he was somehow able to beat a very strong Tsitsipas using his experience, and at least he had a foothold in the match so he will be confident he can tweak things and challenge Rafa at the French Open. Rafa still the favourite of course

Credit to Sonego for the win. However, that grunting, I mean intentional late screaming when the ball is on the other side of the net is a hindrance. Grunting is different and happens for some players when you hit the ball and not when the ball is far on the other side of the net. It's borderline cheating in an attempt to break the concentration of the opponent. I have played a lot of tennis players and have never seen this kind of screaming.

Nothing to do with mentality at this level. Just experience and images from the past that become mind games. Stef had in his mind the way that he lost the final in Barcelona, and so he lost again in a same way.

I feel like Tsitsipas was the better player in this one but Djokovic played a better match. (Like when you are the fastest driver in a race and still get beaten by a team that had a better race.) Nothing strange there, of course; Win or lose, Djokovic plays a better match that his opponent the vast majority of the time. (Same for Nadal.)

China has a tradition of moral values and gratitude. This is reflected in the proverb, “A drop of water in need shall be returned with a spring indeed.” Although such traditions were nearly lost after the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) took power decades ago, it is still deeply rooted in Falun Dafa practitioners who follow the principles of Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance. That is why although the CCP has persecuted the practice for 22 years, tens of millions of practitioners remain firm in their belief after experiencing tremendous physical and spiritual benefits. Besides practitioners, people who have stepped forward to support practitioners during the harsh suppression in China have also received blessings for following their conscience. Many of them have submitted their experiences in greetings to Master Li Hongzhi, the founder of Falun Dafa, to mark World Falun Dafa Day on May 13.

I hope Tsitsipas (quickly) learns how to win big matches vs the "big 3" sooner rather than later. People forget how long it took Ivan Lendl to finally win a Slam title. I just hope Stef will learn to play much more aggressively vs Nadal, Djoker & the rest of the ATP from start to finish...like Ivan Lendl eventually did to become an All-Time Great. Far too often, Stef plays too passively. He's got to know by now that he's come Oh So Close to winning titles & beating the top guys...when he stays aggressive & plays offensive tennis.

I've never seen anyone hop around and swing his racket as much as Tsitsipas as he about to receive serve. These guys are pros, but I just wonder if bothers anyone when Tsitsipas does it? At one point early in the second set, it looked like Dokie took a reset to interrupt the Greek's commotion. Seems like Tsitsipas uses it to distract his opponents.

I know this is only one match in many thousands, but to me this epitomises why Novak is the GOAT. He may not be the best player to ever hold a racquet. What he is though, is the hardest to beat. That for me elevates him to the GOAT. Tsitsipas was brilliant and led pretty much for the whole match, and it still wasn't enough. If you have a look at the vast majority of Djokovic's losses since 2011 (take out his 2017/2018 injury period), his victor has had to pretty much play the tennis of his life to beat him. It's rare that you can beat him without being absolutely brilliant. Sure he loses here and there, but he almost never gets his ass kicked (RG 2020 final a notable exception). The guy is just so hard to beat. That's why he is the best ever.

  • Nick Coller

When you play such important game and you have thousands crazy hooligans against you, that is a mental game. Obviously, Tsitsipas and Rublev are too young and not ready yet. Same for Opelka. Poor boys, they paid the price. The only one who can fight in such abnormal conditions, and beat them is Nick Kyrgios.

It's unbearable? Yes but this doesn't justify the shit storm that he is receiving, people who write that he does it on purpose to disturb the opponent... are you serious? *Do you think other players are idiots who don't realize and let him do it? This is his game, his service is not always reliable, but his superb returning game neutralizes it, which is how he gets w's. I used to play tennis & his game reminds me a lot of how mine was. My service wasn't as reliable as I hoped lol, but my good returning game neutralized it, helping me to get more w's.

If a player is grunting because of the physical exertion from hitting the shot, that would only make sense if they made the grunt as they were hitting the ball. In Sonego's case, his grunt comes WAY after he hits the ball. This tells me he's developed this habit to try and distract his opponents as much as possible. I can't support someone who behaves like that.. 🙄
