#980 Dead or Alive 2 (DC) Hidden Character: Bayman playthrough.

Παιχνίδια

A playthrough of the exclusive hidden character Bayman in the Dreamcast port of Tecmo/Team Ninja’s Dead or Alive 2.
I stated last time that DOA2 was quite experimental. Few places is that more apparent than Team Ninja’s decision to drop Bayman from the game. Inspired by the Virtua Fighter series, DOA also takes that series’ conservative approach of only introducing around two new characters per game; in this case seeing the introduction of Ein (who I’ll get into in future videos), as well as Bayman’s de facto replacement Leon (who I’ll also get into in a future vid). Leon and Bayman are more or less just model-swaps here, with Bayman being mostly something of a bonus rather than a fully-fledged new character for the game.
Something I didn’t bother to mention last time is that DOA2 features a story mode. It’s rather basic, containing just a few cutscenes for each character and a rather basic ending, but it’s decent on the whole. However, given that Tengu and Bayman were made playable after the original release of the game, it means that they don’t have story modes of their own and can only be used in the time attack mode, which will become something of a staple for this series.
As I said, Bayman is pretty much just a bonus. I don’t think he even has any unlockable characters, most of his moveset is the exact same as Leon’s. It’s a pretty interesting moveset too; some in this series are rather speedy and quick with their strikes (such as those used by Hayabusa, Ayane and Kasumi) while others have slower but more powerful strikes and counter-attacks, while also usually having access to more advanced throws. Bayman here is perfectly competent, but when it comes to think series I usually prefer the speedy-comboers or the powerful strikers. Grapplers have never been a big thing for man, but Bayman here is pretty decent on the whole, and I’m glad that Team Ninja went through the effort of re-adding him to the game.
Next time, well, it’s time to see DOA2 in a whole different light.

Sigh.....I remember playing this game in a demo CD for the Dreamcast...why did Sega have to be such fuckups

Sigh....you are correct on that. The level of details and high quality games on the Dreamcast was a good sign, but Sega just dropped the ball and just was on a roll with the bad decisions. And yup owned an original Xbox and that hearty boy was phenomenal, they were even able to get some of the games from the Dreamcast too..I know Sega won't get back into the console game but sure wish they can get a good sonic game like did with sonic adventure 1

Sega did a lot right with the Dreamcast, but by that point it was just too late. They'd burnt too many bridges, made too many stupid decisions, and what really sunk it, ultimately I think, was the lack of a DVD player. The Xbox effectively became the Dreamcast V2.0 though, so at least we got a glimpse of what Sega would have done, and indeed been able to do, if the console continued.

I’m going to assume the following videos for the DOA series: Omega/Genra and Ein for DoA3; Ein, Tengu, Leon, Alpha-152 and Spartan-458 for DoA4; Raidou, Kasumi Alpha, Genra, Tengu, Alpha-152, Shiden and the Pyrosphere stage in DoAD; Alpha-152, Akira Yuki, Sarah Bryant and Pai Chan for DoA5; Jacky Bryant, Rachel, Momiji, Phase-4 and Nyotengu for DoA5U; and Raidou, Naotora Ii and Mai Shiranui for DoA5LR.

Can't say I have much interest in either of them really. It either really needs to be a pure boss, a guest or a former boss for me to cover them. Also, did the DOA Dimensions videos now. Couldn't be bothered to unlock all the bosses so I decided to hack the game instead and, well...needless to say found some quite interesting things. More on those when I get to covering that game.

AdmiralMcFish - Bosses and Hidden Characters I’d classify Phase-4 as a kind of boss character as she’s a Kasumi Clone but it’s your channel. Same with Honoka as she’s like DoA1 Raidou.

Actually, scratch that, turns out that Dead or Alive Dimensions is running at full speed now. Noice. That'll be the last game I cover for the DOA vids then, simply because it's a definitive send-off.

Well you got your ass handed to you because as the difficulty goes up, so does the CPU's counter chance that you can do literally NOTHING about because of the practice of input reading. And God help you if you throw any sort of attack at them while they're in neutral and you have a better poke. It's why I don't play DOA -- I like to use the CPU as a training dummy, not the other way around :P

Would be quite impressive were it not for the fact that I then get my ass handed to me for six minutes straight. This actually went worse than some of my DOA4 playthroughs, funnily enough.

Not sure so what's so special about Bayman that he needed to be taken out and put back in as a hidden character :u
